Bold your name in citation lists. Specify the names of courses you’ve taught. Consider listing the impact factor of each journal that has published your work.
These were among the tips offered up at a July 3 Professional Development webinar hosted by APS. Baylor University senior lecturer Karenna Malavanti and Colby College psychology professor Christopher Soto shared tips on polishing your CV and writing a teaching statement when applying for academic positions. They also discussed the qualities and experience they look for among the researchers whose applications they review.

Colby CollegeChristopher Soto is a Professor of Psychology at Colby College. He received his PhD in Social and Personality Psychology from UC Berkeley. His research examines the structure, assessment, development, and outcomes of personality traits and socioemotional skills.
Karenna Malavanti
Baylor UniversityKarenna Malavanti is a senior lecturer and undergraduate program director at Baylor University. She has taught at both small liberal arts colleges and larger private institutions. She is a past co-chair for the Early Career Psychologists Committee for the Society of the Teaching of Psychology.
