Professional Development: Careers Outside Academia: How to Turn Your CV into a Resume
The transition out of academia and into industry can be difficult as psychology graduate programs are not always designed to support this career trajectory, and academic and industry career paths require different ways of promoting skills and achievements. In this webinar, Joseph Powers, principal data scientist at Intuit, describes how to select which jobs to apply for and how to highlight PhD skills for industry hiring managers. He discusses different levels of positions and the varying scopes they have in determining the business problems being tackled. For example, entry-level positions might not offer an opportunity to use all skills learned in academia, but over time broader scope options with more responsibility might arise.
What you will learn:
• How to frame skills for industry jobs that you developed in graduate school
• How to tailor your resume to the specific needs of an industry job
• What information to prioritize from a CV when making a resume
