Memrise Prize Aimed at Spurring Innovations in Language Learning
David Shanks and Rosalind Potts, scientists in the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences at University College London, United Kingdom, have teamed up with the online learning community Memrise to tackle an age-old problem: how to learn a new language — fast. The $10,000 Memrise Prize challenges contestants to “create the most powerful methodology for memorizing new information.” Contestants will devise a 1-hour learning program to teach English speakers previously unfamiliar Lithuanian vocabulary. Those programs that perform well against a control method will pass to the next round of the contest to be reviewed by independent judges, including experts on memory and neuroscience.

Noba Psychology: 2015 Student Video Award
The 2015 Student Video Award gives college students a chance to engage in active, creative learning by making short videos about important concepts in psychology. The most outstanding entries will become part of the Noba digital textbook to be viewed by other psychology students around the world. The focus in 2015 is Social Influence. We challenge students to choose a central concept from one of the online modules below and bring it to life in engaging and memorable ways. Noba will award $6,000 for the top honor and $3,000 and $1,000 awards for the second and third place submissions, respectively.

Call for Applications The Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) is seeking applicants for SRCD Policy Fellowships for 2015–2016. There are two types of fellowships: Congressional and Executive Branch. Both types of fellowships provide researchers with exciting opportunities to come to Washington, DC, and use their research skills in child development to inform public policy. Fellows work as resident scholars within congressional or federal agency offices. Fellowships are full-time immersion experiences and run from September 1, 2015, through August 31, 2016. Call for Papers: 28th World Congress of the International Association for Suicide Prevention
The 28th World Congress of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) will be held in Montreal, Canada, June 16–20, 2015. This biannual event, sponsored by the World Health Organization, is the world’s largest gathering of researchers, practitioners, helpline workers, program planners, graduate students and persons concerned with suicide bereavement. Over 700 persons from different disciplines around the world will meet to discuss new discoveries and technologies in suicide prevention. The official languages are English and French and there will be simultaneous translation for all plenary sessions and a selection of parallel sessions.

Integrated NSF Support Promoting Interdisciplinary Research and Education (INSPIRE) Pilot Seeks Proposals
The Integrated NSF Support Promoting Interdisciplinary Research and Education (INSPIRE) pilot seeks to support bold interdisciplinary projects in all NSF-supported areas of science, engineering, and education research. INSPIRE has no targeted themes and serves as a funding mechanism for proposalsthat are required both to be interdisciplinary and to exhibit potentially transformative research (IDR and PTR, respectively). Complementing existing NSF efforts, INSPIRE was created to handle proposals whose: Scientific advances lie outside the scope of a single program or discipline, such that substantial funding support from more than one program or discipline is necessary.
