The RAND Corporation will hold two conferences addressing critical issues facing our aging population: The Mini-Medical School for Social Scientists on July 9-10, 2018, and the Demography, Economics, Psychology, and Epidemiology of Aging conference on July 11-12, 2018. SRCD seeking applicants for 2018–2019 Federal Policy Fellowship
The Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) is seeking applicants for SRCD Federal Policy Fellowships for 2018–2019. There are two types of federal fellowships: Congressional and Executive Branch. Both types of fellowships provide researchers with exciting opportunities to come to Washington, DC, and use their research skills in child development to inform public policy. Fellows work as resident scholars within congressional or federal agency offices. Fellowships are full-time immersion experiences and run from September 1, 2018, through August 31, 2019.

Darcia Narvaez Receives Inaugural Expanded Reason Award
Darcia Narvaez, a professor of psychology at the University of Notre Dame and a Fellow at the Institute for Educational Initiatives, has been selected to receive the inaugural Expanded Reason Award. The award, presented by University Francisco de Vitoria, Spain and the Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation in recognition of cutting-edge research and innovative academic programs, was bestowed on “works that question and explicitly incorporate reflections on the anthropology, epistemology, ethics, and meaning that exist within the specific science,” according to the announcement. Researchers Claudia Vanney and Juan F. Franck also received an award for their work.

Scientific American, Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science Announce Online Writing Workshop
Scientific American and the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University are teaming on an online workshop aimed at helping scientists and engineers write blogs and op-eds for magazines, newspapers, and other news outlets. Presented in partnership with The Kavli Foundation, two dozen scientists will receive mentoring on writing over this fall and next spring, with successful assignments to be considered for publication as a Scientific American guest blog.

2018 Cognitive Aging Conference Now Accepting Submissions
The biennial 2018 Cognitive Aging Conference, hosted by the Georgia Institute of Technology, will be held on May 3–6, 2018, in Atlanta, Georgia at the JW Marriott hotel in the Buckhead area of the city. There are different deadlines for symposium and paper submissions. Externally organized symposium proposals are due Sept 15, 2017. Symposia should target either a 90 minute or 2-hour time slot with presentations by 3–4 speakers, discussant optional. Submissions of abstracts for stand-alone posters or papers are due November 15, 2017. For more information, please visit the conference website.

Dunnette Prize Open for Submissions
The Dunnette Prize, named after the late Marvin D. Dunnette, is given to honor living individuals whose work has significantly expanded knowledge of the casual significance of individual differences through advanced research, development, and/or application. The prize was established to recognize individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to understanding (assessing, predicting, and explaining) human behavior and performance by explicating the role played by individual difference. Such contributions can be in the form of basic research, applied research, or applications in practice.
