Description: Award: From $5000 to $12,000

Engineering Dissertation: 20,000

Women who intend to pursue a full-time course of study at accredited institutions during the fellowship year in one of the designated degree programs where women’s participation traditionally has been low (see list below). Candidates in all programs except the master’s in engineering and medicine are eligible to apply for support for the final year of study only and are expected to receive their degrees at the end of the fellowship year. Women pursuing master’s in engineering programs are eligible to apply for either the first or final year of study. Women in medical programs may apply for either their third or final year of study. Doctoral candidates in engineering must be entering the final stages of writing their dissertations. Special consideration is given to applicants who show professional promise in innovative or neglected areas of research or practice in areas of public interest.Selected Professions Fellowships are awarded for the following programs: Architecture (M.Arch, M.S.Arch) Computer/Information Sciences (M.S.) Engineering (M.E., M.S., Ph.D.) Mathematics/Statistics (M.S.)

Fellowships in the following degree programs are restricted to women of color, who have been underrepresented in these fields: Business Administration (M.B.A., E.M.B.A.) Law (J.D.) Medicine (M.D., D.O.)

Description: Selection will be based on academic achievement, participation in defense/national security activities (not law enforcement or criminal justice), work experience, recommendations and objectives.The following are preferred fields of study for awarding scholarships: security studies, military history, government relations, engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, business (as it relates to national security), law (as it relates to national security), international relations, political science, economics. Other Scholarships,Awards, Fellowships, and GrantsThe IFUW fellowships and grants are intended to help finance short research and training projects and to serve as complimentary funds for longer study and research programs. The number of awards distributed varies from 20 to 30, and vary in value from US$10,000 to $6,000 Canadian.

Fellowships are meant to encourage advanced scholarship and original research by university women. Applicants must be well started on their research program. Fellowships will not be awarded for the first year of a PhD program. They are intended to cover at least 8 months of work and should be taken up within 9 months of the date of the award.
