Last Fall 140 students and faculty researchers from over 20 institutions as far as California and Moscow converged on Touro College’s Lander College for Women in Manhattan for the 23rd Greater New York Conference on Behavioral Research. This Conference included 41 scientific presentations by 59 researchers, selected by a review committee of faculty from area colleges.

The Greater New York Conference was started in 1989 in New York City by a consortium of 8 organizations, including APS, with the aim to involve students in high quality behavioral research.

The conference accomplishes this aim by giving competitive awards for outstanding student research, currently in 6 categories, encouraging students to join professional societies such as APS, and by hosting a reception where students can meet with distinguished behavioral researchers.

The honorees are chosen by the conference organizers based on colleagues and students’ nominations of who they would like to meet in person. In 2011 the six distinguished Guests of Honor who joined the gala reception for student researchers were Robert V. Levine of California State University-Fresno, Evgeny Osin and Vladimir Stroh of the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, author Dinesh Sharma, Patrick L. Sciarrata of the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, Richard H. Wexler of Personnel Systems, Inc.
