Advances in Psychological Science Open
Call for Nominations for Inaugural Editor
APS is seeking nominations for Founding Editor of a new APS journal, Advances in Psychological Science Open, a fully open access broad-based journal that will publish high-quality empirical, technical, and theoretical articles, including longer review articles, across the full range of areas and topics in psychological science. Submission of integrative and interdisciplinary research will be encouraged. Authors submitting to APS Open will be able to express themselves in a variety of formats, including longer-form articles and short reports.
The Founding Editor must be a seasoned scientist and experienced editor who is able to assemble and lead a team of associate and consulting editors covering the different areas of psychological science as broadly as possible. This is an extraordinary opportunity for an editor to shape what will become another influential APS journal and a first-choice publication outlet for scientists conducting premier relevant research and seeking a fully open access option.
Selection criteria: Criteria to be considered for selecting the Founding Editor include:
- Comprehensive knowledge of, and broad perspective on, the field of psychological science
- Understanding and appreciation of the many disciplines within the field (e.g., cognitive, social, developmental, and health psychology; behavioral neuroscience and biopsychology), including both established and emerging areas and research that integrates scientific perspectives
- Professional accomplishment and identity within psychological science
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in psychological science
- Demonstrated collaborative leadership experience
- Demonstrated research, writing, reviewing, and managerial skills
- Significant editorial experience
- Commitment to devoting time to editorial duties
- Demonstrated commitment to scientific integrity and ethical treatment of others
- APS membership for a minimum two of the last three years
Starting date and editorial term: We are looking for an editor to begin soon after selection in the third quarter of 2024 or thereafter. The new editor will begin receiving (and soliciting, at least initially) manuscripts in January 2025 to prepare for continuous publication in late 2025. The length of the initial editorial term is 4 years.
Nominations for Founding Editor are welcomed. Please provide a name and contact information for each nominee by September 17, 2024, to the search committee at [email protected]. Additional material, including curricula vitae and brief statements of interest or support may also be sent, but at this point in the process a name and contact information are sufficient. Self-nominations are welcomed. We especially encourage nominations of members of underrepresented groups in psychology.
