COVID-19 struck fast and hard when the whole world was unprepared for it. From social distancing, working from home (WFH) and panic buying, life took a sudden turn for the worse. As the new normal takes a foothold, mental health has become a bigger national concern as more Americans are forced to remain isolated away from loved ones and support systems. New studies are popping up to show the benefits and concerns of social distancing and remote working. These studies run the gamut from fears and vulnerabilities to a rise in virtual meetings that might be the future of work.

9 Research Tips To Maintain Concentration During Remote Working

Workers are drawing upon their own resources and creativity to make the best of the COVID-19 pandemic. As world events unfold, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed or scared (or both). During WFH, you’re more likely to get distracted by ambient noise and unusual activities with other house members present. Headway Capital reported 9 research-based strategies to hold your focus on work when you have difficulty concentrating while working remotely:

  1. Add a deliberate distraction. Background music without lyrics, for example, has shown to boost concentration.
  2. Allow your mind a moment to daydream. Harvard psychologist Paul Seli suggests that pausing occasionally to think about something unrelated can invigorate focus when you return to your task.
